A little about me…

“You always wanted to be outside”. That’s what my mum said recently about me when I was growing up. I was never really in to computer games - relatively new then it has to be said! - But, all the same, I was more interested in playing outside, being in the garden, helping my Dad cut the lawn. Although I was obviously tasked with raking up all the clippings!

After school I went to art college and studied graphic design for 5 years up to degree level. I started work at Haymarket publishing on a weekly car magazine called Autocar, thinking: “This will do”.

Twenty one years later, I needed a change. I’d worked in the automotive, football, classical music, consumer electronics, mobile technology and leisure sectors. For huge department stores and on the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games. But, I felt I needed a new challenge…

I knew I still wanted to design...But what? I’d always been fascinated with the gardens Diarmuid Gavin did on a BBC series called Homefront in the early 2000s and I suppose that never left me. In December 2016, I resigned from my job and took the plunge…

Since then, I’ve trained at Capel Manor College, Regent’s Park, London, worked with a garden & lawn maintenance professional through 2017. Spent a week with the garden team at Tresco Abbey Garden on the Isles of Scilly and also volunteered at Sissinghurst Castle Garden with the garden team, one day a week for 8 months.
